Soul and Spirit PDF Print E-mail

A soul is simply another word for an individual person, whether that person is a living soul or a dead soul. The spirit is the breath of life; it is what a soul uses to breathe while living. At death, this life-sustaining breath is returned to Almighty God. God created Adam from the dust of the earth. He then received the breath of life in his nostrils, and he then became a living soul. Adam did not receive a soul, instead he became one. Animals are souls also.  A soul has it's own personality that characterizes that individual from others. If a soul or individual chooses to live a life that is in opposition to God's words, that soul will die. Those who choose to follow God's words will exist forever in a perfect world of peace, happiness, and righteousness.

Spirit of Life

Job 27:3-4  Job credits God for giving him breath in his nostrils.

Ecclesiastes 12:7  At death, the spirit (breath) returns to God who gave it.

Soul

Genesis 2:7  Man was created from dust, given the breath of life in his nostrils, and became a living soul.

Ezekiel 18:4, 20  All souls belong to Jehovah God. The soul that sins will die, unless they repent.

Revelation 16:3  All souls or individual creatures, in the sea will died. This proves that animals are souls too.

Acts 3:22-23  Souls who don't listen will be destroyed.

May I ask are you one of Jehovah's Witnesses? Or have you ever been?

We are Disciples of Christ. We do not belong to the Watchtower Society because of inaccuracies in the scriptures taught by the Watchtower. We do appreciate that the Jehovah Witnesses teach the Kingdom of God and know the name of God, being Jehovah. They do not teach a trinity. Because of that and other basics of the Bible we are not against the Jehovah Witnesses. However, the Watchtower is a huge religious society turned into a business at the expense of Jehovah. It has all the problems a Babylonian church would have, including pedophiles. This by no means judges the individuals. We just do not want to belong to the society, but rather call ourselves Disciples, doing everything we can to preach and to learn ourselves using the scriptures to become better Christians, trying to please Jehovah and his Son.

There are many reasons why we do not commit ourselves to the Watchtower Society. I will give a couple scriptural examples. The Watchtower teaches that Christ came (or his presence began) in 1914. This contradicts most of what Revelation and Daniel teach. We are watching for Christ’s second coming. Once Christ comes (at the 6th seal) then it will begin a 3 ½ year time period for the trumpets and vials to sound and be poured out. It will also fulfill the fall of Babylon, something else that the Watchtower teaches has already fallen. When Babylon falls it will become very apparent to all as religions like Christendom, Muslim, and Buddhism will no longer flourish and be able to deceive the world.

I hope my answers did not come across as belligerent or judgmental. It was not my attempt. We at Bible Research take our studies heartily as I am sure many of the Jehovah Witnesses do as well. We think the leaders who call themselves the Watchtower have led the Society into some wrong teaching occurring over many years by trying to say Christ came in 1914. We have or have had some members who studied with the witnesses in the past. They left the Watchtower organization mainly because of not agreeing with the Watchtower that Christ came in 1914. Many of our other members have not belonged to the Watchtower but come from some kind of religious discontent in their past. We are very fortunate to have found the truth.
