Angels PDF Print E-mail

This study helps to explain angels and their abilities, their purpose, and their ranking. Angels, by definition, are messengers. There are millions and millions of them in existence. Most are good. Many are bad. Satan is also an angel who rebeled against God. He was a cherub and deceived one-third of the angels in heaven, those who chose to follow Satan are referred to as demons. Angels are superior to mankind in ability and intelligence. Angels are very powerful and can travel the universe and heavens freely. God created angels before man ever existed. Clergy often depict angels as little winged babies on clouds, or beautiful women, playing harps, this is inaccurate. The scriptures sometimes refer to angels as the Sons of God (see Job 1:6 and Job 2:1).  They are also referred to symbolically in some scriptures, as stars of heaven (Revelation 12:4). Concerning rank or position of authority, the following is known: Michael the archangel, seraphs, cherubs, and a large body of other angels. In the near future, when the end of this system occurs, with the destruction of the wicked, angels will be directly involved.

Who are they and what do they do?

Psalm 8:4-5  Angels are above man and more intelligent. They are very powerful spirit creatures.

Revelation 22:8-9  Angels are servants of God and not to be worshipped.

Revelation 5:11  There are millions of angels.

Luke 1:11-13, 19, 26-30  Angel means messenger. Here is an example of the angel Gabriel bringing an important message (see also Revelation 1:1).

Revelation 7:1-3  These angels hold back the four winds of the earth. Clearly, they are more powerful than mankind.

Isaiah 6:1-3  Seraphim's have six wings (see also Revelation 4:6-8).

Ezekiel 10:20-21  Cherubims have four wings possibly denoting a lower rank than seraphim's.

Matthew 13:39-41, 49-50  This is a parable that Christ taught concerning the end of this present evil world. Here, the angels are the reapers.

Sons of God

Job 1:6 & Job 2:1  These angels, referred to as the Sons of God, present themselves before the throne.

Job 38:7  In this scripture, all the Sons of God (angels) shouted for joy together.

Genesis 6:2  These angels were disobedient. Through reading, one can prove that the angels who sinned by taking wives, of the daughters of men, are not demons because the scripture says they are reserved in chains until judgment (Jude 6).  But Satan and the demons have already been judged, to die forever and it is just a matter of time before they will be destroyed (John 16:11) . This scripture is included in the study to show another example of the angels referred to as the Sons of God.
