Holy Spirit PDF Print E-mail

The Holy Spirit is a power given from God to mankind to understand the scriptures. The Holy Spirit is not an individual, but rather a gift or comforter given by Jesus Christ through His Father, the Almighty God to help us to understand the meaning of His word. The Holy Spirit is offered to any individual who desires to be a footstep follower of Christ. Many diversities of gifts are available through the Holy Spirit. It is important for an individual to ask for help of the Holy Spirit from God. It is poured out at the request through His Son.

The Holy Spirit

John 14:15-17, 26 The Holy Spirit is referred to as the comforter because it will teach us all things and help bring things into our remembrance. Christ knew that the apostles and disciples would need this extra help after he returned to heaven.

Acts 2:16-18 After Christ was resurrected, the spirit was poured upon all flesh to prophesy.

1 Corinthians 2:12-13 The Holy Spirit helps us to understand the spiritual things that are freely given to us of God.

Proverbs 1:23 Those individuals who change at God's reproof (correction), will get the help of His spirit and understanding of His words.

There are a couple of parables in Matthew chapters 20 and 21 talking about the vineyard. The house of Isreal is a good explanation of vineyard, but we could expound a little more. Matthew 20:1 says "For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard." The vineyard is cared for by the mans' labourers, like Christ's Disciples care for the Word, the truth, the church, and essentially the preaching of the Kingdom of God. The parable goes back to the Jews who were first hired to care for the Nation of Israel. The other labourers can be Christians, to whom the Kingdom of God has been opened up to with Christ's testimony of the new covenant.

Through Strong's Exhaustive Concordance the defintion of vineyard used in Matthew 20:1 is vine or support. Using these defintions I think of a family tree (vine).

Is there another meaning for the word vineyard?
I know it states in the Old testament that "vineyard" means the house of Israel.
