What the Bible Really Teaches PDF Print E-mail

Before the Earth, planets, and the stars were ever created, there was the Almighty God, Jehovah, who always was.  Then God created His only begotten Son, the Word, and they Together created the Heavens, the Earth, and the angels.

(Colossians 1:15-18 KJV) "Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence."

One of these angels was anointed to rule over man.  He was a high-ranking cherub called Lucifer.  Lucifer rebelled and misled Eve.  After this, Lucifer was known as Satan, Serpent, Dragon, and Devil.

(Ezekiel 28:13-15 KJV) "Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee."

After Lucifer’s rebellion and the downfall of mankind through disobedience of Adam and Eve, the Almighty God Jehovah promised to bring forth a Holy One who would rule the universe and mankind under God in righteousness.  That Holy One is the Only Begotten Son of God, the Word, Jesus Christ, who was sent to Earth to become flesh and choose His government from among mankind, consisting of those who would believe upon Him.  The world, however, hated Him.  They crucified Him, and He returned to the right hand of His Father in Heaven until the appointed time of His second coming.

(Acts 3:20-23) "And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people."

(Luke 4:43 KJV) "And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent."

At Christ’s second coming, this wicked system of things will be destroyed, and His righteous, faithful followers will be resurrected from their graves to live forever, some in Heaven and some on Earth.

(2 Peter 3:7-13 KJV) "But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness."

"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first..." (1 Thessalonians 4:14-16). ASV

"And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who standeth for the children of thy people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt" (Daniel 12:1-2). ASV

Jesus was clearly NOT Michael the Achangel, this is obvious in scripture, and I do not understand why people would try to interpret scripture in such a way as to prove that he was. Hebrews is a great example of who Christ was and who angels were, clearly outlined. Even if you were to read the first two chapters you would come to realize Christ's position and that it is demeaning (blasphemous even) to claim that he was merely an angel.
Also, in regards to the so-called "proof" above with a quote from what is actually Ex. 23:20-25 and NOT Ex 20:20-23, this passage is not refering to Jesus or the Archangel Michael and should not be misinterpreted as such. Read the entire context, do not assume what you want it to say.

It helps to understand Jesus' relationship with his Father Jehovah before Jesus was sent to the earth and born from Mary. See our study "Christ With God Before The World" under the Bible studies heading.

An angel is a messenger. The Archangel is the highest ranking messenger and there can only be one. Who but Jesus Christ has brought the most important message?

Proverbs 8:22-30 KJV
The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

9 But Michael the archangel, when contending with the Devil, he argued about the body of Moses; he dared not bring a judgment of blasphemy, but said, "Let the Lord rebuke you!"(LITV)

Thanks for your inquiry. Jesus' name before he became the Christ was Michael just as you stated. You can find many scriptures on Jesus being refered to the Angel of the Lord when helping the Israelites out of Egypt. Here is great way to prove that using two series of scriptures.

(1 Corinthians 10:1-4 KJV)
Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

(Exodus 23:20-23 KJV)
Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries. For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.

Jesus Christ as Michael the Archangel is the highest of Jehovah God's creation and does not diminish the authority and glory given to our Savior, Jesus Christ.
